After Chi’s death, Sophia had to organize all his business interests and the photography archive under one. “I have to represent him appropriately and how he kept his brand strong. The Chi Modu Brand was born in 2021, it keeps all the varied business entities, project artist ephemera, and photography archive.
Sophia worked in the academy until 2019, for over 20 years. When this occurred Chi discussed with Sophia what her next career move would be after that end. He asked her to come on board to work with him. He needed the help since he was beginning to travel more, and business was increasing. Then the pandemic hit and business came to a halt, during that time Chi worked on retooling the business which essentially centered around him and his work. During this time of slower business growth allowed us to revisit projects we hadn’t actively pursued and create new channels for growth.
Then Chi realized he was ill, a stomach ache was becoming acute which led to a discovery of stage 4 stomach cancer. He died on May 21, 2021.
Sophia is continuing his mission to keep the ownership of his copyrights in the family’s hands. His archive belongs to our children, I am the protector of this legacy he worked and fought so hard to keep and maintain. It’s important to our family and our livelihood. Chi’s amazing images are available or licensing,
